We are exploring opportunities to develop and enhance the services offered from the current toilet block at Harbourside Park (Baiter). They are in poor condition and require significant levels of ongoing maintenance and investment.
Baiter is a unique visitor destination offering spectacular views of Brownsea Island and Arne. With a large open space and frontage, it is an ideal location to watch or join in the year round water sports. It also has on-site parking and good cycle and walking access to Poole Quay and Town Centre.
Baiter Park is a public open space protected by a Fields in Trust designation.
Benefits of a development
The proposed development of the toilet building will provide:
- a new park cafe
- public toilet facilities including disabled access
The proposals have been developed to improve the park catering facilities and sustain public toilet provision. We aim to completely remodel and modernise the building adding an indoor cafe, refurbished public toilets, a small single storey extension to the rear and a covered decked area to the front. The flood zone in the area has been considered and the development would not be impacted.
The new building will benefit the whole community. A permanent catering facility will attract more groups and provide a social environment. This will replace the existing mobile trailer in the park.
Finance
The project would be mainly funded through private investment. We may also use some council funds to enable the project.
Planning
We made an application for planning permission in December 2017. You can see all the documents at the planning portal using reference APP/17/01940/F. Planning permission has been granted, with conditions. Full and detailed designs will be developed with a commercial partner that will require further assessment and may require further planning permission.
Next steps
This project is currently on hold as we work towards forming the new Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch Council which comes into effect on 1 April 2019.
Additional information
We operate in a fair, open and transparent way, offering both fair opportunity for all bidders, obtaining best value for Poole residents.
