Supplementary Planning Guidance

Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG) provides greater detail in relation to particular policies or proposals contained in Development Plan Documents (DPD), to ensure they are properly understood and applied effectively. Although SPG documents do not have the same status as adopted DPDs, it is likely to be a material consideration in determining planning applications.

An SPG can take the form of:

  • master plans
  • design guides
  • area development briefs
  • guidance on a particular topic

The following provides a list of current adopted SPG documents:

Whilst these adopted SPG documents remain current, it is anticipated they will gradually be replaced, where necessary, by SPD, under the requirements for such documents set out in the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 and subsequent amended legislation.
