Poole’s premier retail centre to benefit from multi-million pound revamp

Poole town centre will benefit from a multi-million pound revamp thanks to an agreement between Borough of Poole and the owners of the Dolphin Shopping Centre.

Legal & General will improve the shopping centre, Falkland Square, Kingland Crescent and public spaces, creating a more attractive shopping and leisure destination for local people and visitors.

As part of the agreement, the council will invest £1.5 million in further improvements to the car parking at the Dolphin Shopping Centre. The council’s investment will coincide with completion of the improvements made by Legal & General.

Borough of Poole, as owners of the freehold of the land, has worked closely with Legal & General to reach a single lease agreement for the shopping centre which supports investment in the town centre.

The council has ambitious plans for the town centre and surrounding areas. The £26 million investment by Legal & General in the Dolphin Shopping Centre is a catalyst for further schemes to be brought forward in future by the council to improve the vibrancy of the town centre.

Cllr John Challinor, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Corporates Estates, Borough of Poole, said: “We are delighted to have reached an agreement with our partners at Legal & General. These exciting proposals reflect our shared ambitions for the town centre and will transform it into an attractive and vibrant destination for the people of Poole.

“We want the town centre to be a place we can be proud of, reflecting the best of Poole; somewhere that people want to spend more time shopping, eating out and enjoying their leisure time. Poole town centre has enormous potential and the agreement with Legal & General is an important step towards our vision of making it the vibrant heart of our borough.”
