Parking charges on roads near to Poole’s beaches

Following a decision by Poole’s Cabinet on 6 December 2016, the on-street pay and display parking scheme has now been extended in some areas around Poole’s beaches, meaning charges will apply from week beginning Monday 24 April 2017.

As a result additional roads such as Panorama Road on the Sandbanks peninsula and some sections of minor roads immediately adjacent to the harbour are subject to a charge during the peak season which runs from 1 March to 31 October each year. Most residential roads will still remain free of a parking charge all year round.

Blue Badge holders are not affected as they can continue to park for free in on-street beach pay and display bays in Poole.

The parking tariff is charged between 8am and 6pm at £1.50 per hour and then after four hours an all-day rate of £10 applies. There are no charges after 6pm at any time of the year and it remains free to park between November and February all day too.

Poole residents who are regular beach users can purchase a resident’s beach season ticket for £110 per annum which will allow the permit holder to park in all beach areas. A non-resident’s beach season ticket is also available at £330 per annum. Both of these permits are available to apply for on the council's website

All new parking locations offer a range of payment choices including cash, phone or card offering a contactless option.

Councillor Drew Mellor, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Transportation, Borough of Poole, said: “Last summer clearly demonstrated that road congestion caused by the demand for car parking spaces around beaches is a problem during the high season.

“These parking changes offer effective and efficient traffic management to meet existing and future demand for access to Poole’s beaches, but still offer more than 1,600 free of charge on-street parking spaces within a 5-15 minute walk to the seafront. People with existing resident and non-resident beach permits will also benefit from these changes as these will be valid for use in the new pay and display areas.”
