Dogs and their owners are invited to the Great Poole Dog Walk at Upton Country Park on Sunday 17 July with the Mayor of Poole.
Enjoy a fun family charity walk along the new trails at Upton Country Park with the Mayor of Poole and her dog Diesel who is an Akita. Children can win prizes for the ‘Find Fido’ challenge and scavenger hunt which has been kindly supported by the Tesco Community Fund. For our canine companions there is a free doggy goody bag for every dog, provided by Oscar Pet Foods, and light refreshments upon completion. It’s a great way for you and your dog to get some exercise and meet new friends.
A registration fee of £5 per dog and their walker, and £1 per additional adult is applicable. You can register at the Education Centre Upton Country Park, between 10am and 11am, Sunday 17 July. You can start the dog walk any time after you register, but please check in by 1.30pm on completion.
Proceeds from the Great Poole Dog Walk will be donated to the Mayor’s charities including Waggy Tails Rescue, Lewis Manning Hospice and Chestnut Nursery. In addition the event is being supported by several different organisations including The Dorset Wildlife Trust, Dorset Dogs and the Urban Heath Partnership. Volunteers from Waggy Tails can be found along the route to support walkers and ensure no dog goes thirsty. Vets4Pets will also be attending the event, providing a helping hand.
Mayor of Poole, Cllr Xena Dion said: “It’s the first big community dog walk we have had in Poole and it’s all about getting families out there enjoying the outdoors. This is a fantastic opportunity to raise money for important charities and walk your dog at the same time.
“I am really pleased that people will be able to get a better understanding of the environment they are walking in from Dorset Wildlife Trust and the Urban Heath Partnership who have really good interactive ways to provide interesting information and give people ideas about what to look out for on the walk. I hope as many people can join us and that we can build on this year on year to become the biggest community dog walk in the area.”
Cllr John Rampton, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for the Environment, Borough of Poole, said: “I'm really glad that the Mayor has chosen Upton Country Park to host this fun but worthwhile event. I'm also glad that the expanded park is such a great place to hold it. Please do come along, see how lovely the park is, have fun and support the excellent local charities the Mayor has chosen. This is a great idea, and I hope this becomes a regular event as the park continues to expand and offer more facilities for all.”
