Recruitment drive to inspire new foster carers

Long-term and short-term fostering, complex needs, supported lodgings and shared care – these are just some of the types of fostering care that need more carers to help local children and young people.

Local people who are thinking about becoming a foster carer are encouraged to attend the next Foster for Poole recruitment event on Monday 3 December 2018.

Councillor, Mike White, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People Services, said: “We are facing a continuous demand for children’s social care in Poole and are always in need of suitable people who are able to dedicate their time and support in caring for a child or young person.

“Our foster carers come from all sorts of backgrounds. Whether you’re single, in a same-sex partnership or you rent rather than own your own home, these are not usually barriers to becoming a foster carer. If you have time in your life and want to provide love and support to a child or young person then I would urge you to come along to our recruitment event to find out more information and to see if it would suit you.”

A short presentation will take place followed by the opportunity to speak with members of the fostering team and current foster carers will be on hand to provide information and answer any questions people may have.

The fostering team are looking for carers for a variety of types of foster care, including:

  • Supported lodgings – providing a safe home environment for a young person leaving care
  • Complex needs – providing care and support to a young person with challenging behaviours
  • Shared Care – caring on a regular basis for a child with disabilities to provide the family with respite

The recruitment event takes place from 7pm until 8.30pm on Monday 3 December 2018, in the Cattistock Room, Poole Civic Centre. Enter through the members’ entrance which is opposite Poole Park and the row of shops.  No booking is required and refreshments will be available.
