The construction of the new 80-bed nursing and dementia care home, named Figbury Lodge is advancing well with work to the roof nearing completion.
To celebrate the significant milestone in building work, Borough of Poole and Shaw Healthcare staff, Councillor Karen Rampton and site staff from Poole-based construction firm Stepnell attended a topping out ceremony on site on 18 October 2018.
When it opens in Summer 2019 the council-owned care home will offer enhanced support and facilities to Poole residents, including rehabilitation.
The building is currently under construction on Mitchell Road in Canford Heath, by Borough of Poole and Stepnell who were awarded the £9.6m contract in 2017.
The care home will be operated by Shaw Healthcare, who have signed a ten-year contract for the operation of the care home, creating over 100 new jobs and providing high quality care and accommodation. It will also offer a community hub and facilities which will be accessible to members of the wider community.
Councillor Karen Rampton, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Social Care, Health and Housing, Borough of Poole, said: “This new facility offers much-needed care in Poole and helps us support residents who are unable to fund their own care, and the local community. It's great to see the development progressing so well and I look forward to seeing the finished building.”
Suzanne Hughes, Deputy CEO for Shaw healthcare said: “I would like to reflect the comments of Councillor Rampton in that the facility is going to be first class and we share the excitement about starting to deliver care. Our recruitment drive is now underway and we look forward to hearing from local people who may be interested in joining us.”
Rob Speirs, Stepnell’s Regional Director, said: “It’s great to have reached the topping out stage of this much-needed specialist care home and it’s exciting to see this fantastic new accommodation really beginning to take shape. The construction is progressing well with the project due for completion early next year. We will be taking the scaffolding down over the next few weeks as our project team focuses on completing the internal and external works.”
