Have your say on future improvements to Alexandra Park

Poole residents are being given the opportunity to have their say on future improvements to Alexandra Park in Parkstone.

The park is set to benefit from £82,000 investment allocated from developer contributions (S106 funding) and Borough of Poole is inviting local people to give their views on how the funding could be spent to improve the play areas, green space and amenities within the park.

The public consultation is taking place over a four-week period and will close at 5pm on Monday 6 August 2018.

Council Officers have attended several public events to talk about the park, the improvements and answer any questions residents may have. Two further events will be held in Alexandra Park on the following dates:

Friday 27 July 2018 between 1pm and 6pm
Saturday 4 August 2018 between 10am and 1pm and will include a range of family orientated activities

Martin Whitchurch, Open Spaces Development Manager, Borough of Poole, said: “We are delighted to have secured funding to help make various improvements to this popular park including the play areas.

“It also provides a great opportunity for us to engage with the local community and see how we can help empower local residents to become actively involved in this park. During the public events we will be talking to residents about the possibility of developing a community group and creating a Friends of Alexandra Park group. Such groups can play a vital role in developing and sustaining a thriving local area and we are keen to see this happen for Alexandra Park.

“We are also well aware of issues in the park, particularly around anti-social behaviour. We are making every effort to turn this situation around and deliver improvements that will encourage local residents and the community to make full use of the park in the future.”

Cllr John Rampton, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Environment and Open Spaces, Borough of Poole, said: “Alexandra Park is a popular large open space used by residents of all ages, dog walkers, community groups and is a regular route for children walking to the local school. The consultation provides a great opportunity for local people to engage with the Council and help shape improvements that benefit the whole community. I would encourage all park users to complete the survey or pop along to one of the public events in the park.”

Cllr Elaine Atkinson, on behalf of Ward Members for Penn Hill, said: “As local councillors, we recognise that Alexandra Park is hugely valued by local families and other park users. We are delighted that our calls for investment in Alexandra Park have been heard. We would urge all residents and park users to respond to the current consultation so that their wishes can be, wherever possible, integrated into future plans for the park.”

Following the consultation it is anticipated that the proposed improvements will start being installed in Autumn 2018 and the new play equipment unveiled in March 2019.
