Bournemouth and Poole healthy weight for children and young people strategy 2011-2015

The Bournemouth and Poole Healthy Weight for Children Strategy has been developed as a local response to the cross-government paper; Healthy Weight, Healthy Lives  . This was developed as a policy priority to tackle the emerging rise in overweight and obesity observed within our children over the past few decades.

The government paper provides insight into future trends and consequences of obesity. It is estimated that nearly a quarter of people in England are already obese. This could result in a doubling of direct healthcare costs, and an increase in the wider costs to society and business, reaching a possible £49.9 billion by 2050.
