- on 2011 census day, Poole had 147,645 residents (up from 138,288 in 2001 census day, or an increase of 6.8%)
- there were 72,121 males (48.8% of the total population) and 75,524 (51.2%) females
- Poole has a relatively large proportion of older people: 30,158 residents, or just over one in five (20.4%) were aged 65 and over
- the population of those aged 85 and over was 4,919 or 3.3% of the population
