Poole Museum seeks stories of local women for new exhibition

Women in Poole are being asked to share their experiences and life stories as part of a new exhibition coming to Poole Museum in 2018.

The exhibition, called ‘Her Story: Tales of Poole Women Past and Present’, will focus on the lives of women in Poole, throughout the years.

Covering all aspects of life from work to marriage, motherhood, adventures and heroic feats, the exhibition will explore the daily lives of women.

Poole Museum is looking for stories to feature in the exhibition, and would like to hear tales and memories of local people about their own experiences or those of women who have influenced  their lives or community.

Three drop-in sessions for women wishing to tell their stories for the exhibition will take place at:

  • 18 November 10 am – 12 noon - Rossmore Library
  • 18 November 1pm-5pm - Poole Central Library
  • 20 November 10am – noon - Hamworthy Library

Mayor of Poole, Cllr Lindsay Wilson, said: “Her Story is a great way of uncovering the hidden history of the women of Poole. Many stories have been forgotten or lost over the years, and we want to bring these tales to the forefront, to help the people of Poole learn more about our vibrant and exciting past. I encourage everyone to share their memories and tales of strong, Poole women, who helped shaped the wonderful town that we live in today.”

The exhibition, organised in partnership with Poole libraries and supported by staff and students at Bournemouth University, opens in January 2018.
