Borough of Poole Remembrance Events 2017

Remembrance events will be taking place in Poole over the weekend of 11 - 12 November. Events are open to the public, details are as follows:


Two Minutes Silence - Saturday 11 November 2017

The Plaza, Dolphin Shopping Centre, Poole 

The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Lindsay Wilson, accompanied by the Sheriff of Poole, Cllr Sean Gabriel, will be observing the Two Minute Silence on Saturday 11 November at 10.55am with a short service of Remembrance conducted by the Mayor’s Chaplain. This will take place in the Plaza at the Dolphin Shopping Centre alongside the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal Stand.  Following the service the Mayor will lay a wreath at the Falkland Memorial in Falkland Square.


Annual Service of Remembrance and Parade - Sunday 12 November 2017

War Memorial, Poole Park 

Members of the public are invited to join the Mayor of Poole Cllr Lindsay Wilson for the Annual Service of Remembrance and Parade at the War Memorial in Poole Park on Sunday 12 November 2017. 

The Parade will be lead by the Poole Sea Cadets Marching Band and will be made up by serving military personnel, veterans, uniformed youth groups and council officials. Representatives from the uniformed services will also be in attendance. 

Those wishing to take part in the parade should arrive at the cricket pavilion in Poole Park by 9.45am and make themselves known to the parade marshal.

The Parade will make its way to the War Memorial, where the service will begin at 10.50am, led by the Mayor's Chaplain.  The Salvation Army band will accompany the congregation in hymns, with the Service also featuring readings, prayers and the laying of wreaths. Two minutes silence will be observed following the sounding of the Last Post. This year’s service will also feature a salute from a field gun which will be fired to mark the beginning and end of the Two Minute Silence. Following the service, the Deputy Lieutenant and the Mayor of Poole will take the Salute from the Parade, which will make its way from the War Memorial to the Cricket Pavilion, where it will then be dismissed.

Please be advised that there is restricted vehicle access to Poole Park for the duration of the event and free parking is available in the multi storey car park at the Civic Centre.
